Lesson 6-Heavy Weather and Reefing (3 hrs.)

weather radio reports, storm warning flags,

Lesson 7-Navigation and Safety Class (3 hrs)
This evening class, offered once a month at each
office, can be taken at any time. It covers basic coastal
navigation, chart selection and interpretation, plotting a
course, dead reckoning, using bearings, fog tactics,
night navigation, and local hazards.
Required before chartering and before Lesson 9.

Lesson 8-Boat Systems, Equip, Procedures:
Emergency procedures; (4 hrs)
Given on a 30-36’ charter boat
1. Electrical, fuel, water systems
2. Operation of marine sanitation system
3. Through-hull valve procedures
4. Handling emergencies. VHF Radio
5. Anchoring & Anchorages discussion..
6. Capacity plates. Planing & displacement hulls
7. Accident reporting, Float plans. Fuel sheet
8. Use of marine stove. Charter manual
ASA 101 Written Test (1-2 Hrs)
80% needed to pass.
Lesson 9- Night Navigation (3hrs)
This three-hour on-the-water class is given in the
evening once a month at each office, and is designed
to help you navigate and practice your skills sailing
after dark. We’ll work on recognizing lights and
landmarks and the use of triangulation of bearings to
determine our position. Take this class when you are
comfortable with your navigation skills, and prior to any
night sailing charter.
Pre-requisite = Lesson 7). Please call for dates.
Group Daysail (6 hours)
This is strongly recommended before your first
charter. Daysails are scheduled every other Sunday
from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. One daysail is included in
the CSC if you take it before your first charter. Guests
and additional daysails cost $55.00 per person.
Confidence Sail x 2
The Confidence Sails are your first 2 charters. Your
first charter should take place as soon as possible
after your last lesson. 20% discount on your first
charter if you book for a full day.
ASA 103 Written Test (2 hrs)
To be taken after your 2nd charter.
